The four core numbers
Four numbers that together form your financial compass — what they mean, how Monetoir calculates them, and when to use each one.
Monetoir tells your financial story in four numbers. Each one answers a different question, on a different time horizon: from what you can do right now, through what this month allows, to where you will stand years from now. Once you know them, the dashboard reads effortlessly.
Your main balance is the sum of your included accounts — what is actually there right now. An overdraft counts as negative; excluded or archived accounts don't count at all.
It is a mirror, not a verdict. The main balance says nothing yet about what you can safely spend — the other numbers give a much sharper answer to that.
You'll find the main balance beneath the hero on the dashboard. Behind the chevron sits the account panel, where you decide for each account whether it counts.
Truly Free is the heart of Monetoir: what you can still freely spend at this moment. The formula is simple — your main balance, minus what still has to come off this cycle: the outstanding fixed costs, debts and goal deposits.
A debited item is no longer outstanding — that money has already left your balance. And if you untick an item in the free-space card ("not paying this month"), it does not count either and Truly Free rises right away. That is how the card and the hero number stay perfectly in step.
Truly Free sits large at the top of the dashboard. The bridge line beneath it keeps things transparent — what has already been debited this cycle, and what is still to come.
Free monthly room is the breathing room of a full month: what remains of this month's income once fixed costs, debts and your goal contributions have been deducted.
This is not an account balance but a preview of a single month. It tells you whether the month works on its own — regardless of what is in your accounts.
You'll find your free monthly room in the Cashflow screen, and the timeline draws it forward month by month into the future.
Net worth is the sum of it all: your included accounts plus the balances in your goals. One number that shows the state of your money as a whole.
It is the long-term number — not what you can spend today, but where you stand. On the timeline you can watch your net worth develop over the years; the Accounts screen holds the breakdown.
The four numbers sit on a timeline from near to far. Main balance is a snapshot (now). Truly Free is the workable number within this salary period (this cycle). Free monthly room widens that to a full month (this month). Net worth looks out over the years (the horizon).
They don't compete — they answer different questions. What's in my accounts? → Main balance. What can I do right now? → Truly Free. How does this month end? → Free monthly room. Where am I heading? → Net worth.
